On Wednesday (February 23, 2022), PLAY Airlines announced the opening of ticket sales between Iceland and Orlando, Florida for flights from September 30, 2022. The carrier will offer three weekly flights to Orlando International Airport (MCO) on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while the return flights will depart Orlando on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Orlando will become PLAY’s fourth U.S. destination, complementing service to Boston, Baltimore/Washington D.C. and New York, which will launch during spring/summer 2022. The carrier will be adding Airbus A321neo LRs to their fleet prior to the launch of Orlando service.

In Wednesday’s announcment, PLAY Airlines’ CEO, Birgir Jónsson, said,

“With the Airbus A321neo LR, we can reach markets that were not open to PLAY before. We use the newest generation of A320/A321neo from Airbus, which is the most sought-after aircraft in the world today because of its benefits and the Long Range-version is a welcome addition. I am convinced that our arrival in Orlando will shake up the Iceland – Florida market. After studying our competitors’ prices on flights to and from Orlando, we are confident we can offer much lower prices on this popular route, which benefits a huge market. That includes the many Icelanders who travel to Florida as well as everyone traveling between Florida and Europe. PLAY is a real low-budget airline that aims to offer the lowest prices. With our operations on this popular route, many more will be able to fly to Florida and experience this wonderful area.”

Founded in 2019 by Arnar Magnússon, PLAY is a new Iceland-based low-cost carrier (LCC) which operates flights between Iceland and Europe, and will launch transatlantic long-haul service between Europe and North America in spring 2022. The airline launched their inaugural passenger revenue flight on Thursday, June 24, 2021, with service between Keflavík International Airport (KEF) and London Stansted (STN). PLAY’s fleet of Airbus A320neo and A321neos currently connect customers to 16 European destinations, growing to 24 in 2022. This spring, the carrier will have added new aircraft to their fleet, prior to the launch of low-cost transatlantic flights to North America.
