PLAY’s first transatlantic flight to the U.S. departed today from Keflavik International Airport in Iceland bound for Baltimore/Washington International Airport. The route is Play’s first U.S. destination and will be followed by Boston in May and New York in June.
On Wednesday (April 20, 2022), PLAY Airlines announced the launch their inaugural flight between Keflavik International Airport in Iceland and the United States, with service to Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI). Baltimore service will operate daily, followed by new service to Boston in May, and New York in June. The flight marks a milestone in the airline’s history, and will be followed by the return flight where North American customers will cross the Atlantic enroute to PLAY’s Iceland hub.
In Wednesday’s announcement, PLAY Airlines’ CEO, Birgir Jónsson, said,
“We have been looking forward to this day for a long time and we are just ecstatic with joy now it's finally here. The transatlantic flights will be the main focus in PLAY´s operations and it was a huge project to establish a connection in a new continent. But now we see the fruits of our labor, a well-made, reliable and ambitious flight plan. We already feel a great interest from travelers and I am really astonished to witness the resilience that my colleagues at PLAY possess. It is because of them we can celebrate this milestone in our company’s history and we look forward to exciting times.”
