On Tuesday (July 14, 2026), Norwegian Group reported their second quarter financial results for the period ending June 30, 2026.  The Group reported a second quarter operating loss (EBIT loss) of NOK 603 million (US $62.2 million).  Despite a weaker financial result compared to last year, the Group reported good cost control and increased customer satisfaction.  Norwegian’s quarterly result was impacted by the Supreme Court’s decision on the EU ETS obligation for 2020, significant increases in fuel prices, as well as the timing of Easter compared to last year. Norwegian Group ended the period with liquidity of NOK 13.7 (US $1.4 billion).

In Tuesday’s announcement, Norwegian’s CEO, Geir Karlsen, said,

“We have had good operational performance and full focus on cost control, which we see the effect of in the second quarter.  While the financial results were weaker than expected, our cost focus continued to yield results, and the unit cost excluding fuel was down 5 percent compared to last year.  Norwegian was Europe’s most punctual airline in May.  We see a positive booking trend going forward and we are well positioned for the coming months.

“This quarter has been marked by a strategically important milestone for the group.  We are very pleased that the general meeting approved the acquisition of Nordic Leisure Travel Group on July 8, which brings us closer to the completion of a very important transaction.  REMA 1000 has also joined Spenn, and we look forward to the platform's further growth.”

Norwegian Group carried 7.8 million passengers in the second quarter, of which 6.7 million were with Norwegian and 1.1 million with Widerøe.  Capacity (ASK) for Norwegian increased by 5 percent in the quarter, while Widerøe’s capacity increased by 3 percent.  Norwegian’s load factor in the quarter was 82.5 percent, down 2.7 percentage points from the same period last year, partly due to the early Easter this year, while Widerøe had a load factor of 72.8 percent.

At the end of the quarter, Norwegian Group’s fleet consisted of 145 aircraft, of which 95 aircraft belonged to Norwegian’s fleet (including 36 Boeing 737-8 MAX) and 50 aircraft belonged to Widerøe’s fleet.

Norwegian is a leading Nordic aviation group headquartered in Fornebu in Bærum. The company has over 8,900 employees and owns Norwegian Air Shuttle and Widerøe Flyveselskap, which was acquired in 2024.  Norwegian Air Shuttle has around 5,200 team members and offers an extensive route network connecting the Nordic countries to popular destinations in Europe.  In 2025, Norwegian carried over 23 million passengers with a fleet of 95 Boeing 737-800 and 737-8 MAX aircraft.  Widerøe Flyveselskap is Norway’s oldest airline and has more than 3,700 employees.  During 2025, Widerøe carried 4.1 million passengers with a fleet of 50 aircraft, including De Havilland Canada Dash-8s and Embraer E190-E2s.  Additionally, Widerøe Ground Handling provides services at 41 airports in Norway.
