Norwegian Air Shuttle Orders 11 CFM LEAP-1B Engine Spares

CFM International has announced that Norwegian Air Shuttle has ordered 11 LEAP-1B spare engines. These fuel efficient engines will help support Norwegian’s growing fleet of Boeing 737 MAX jets.

On Tuesday (June 17, 2025), CFM International, a 50-50 joint company between GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines, announced that Norwegian Air Shuttle has ordered 11 spare CFM LEAP-1B engines. These fuel efficient engines will support Norwegian’s growing fleet of Boeing 737 MAX airplanes, and is part of the carrier’s long-term strategy to secure operational resilience. Deliveries of the spare engines are scheduled over the next few years, and will add to the two LEAP-1B spares Norwegian currently owns.
In Tuesday’s announcement, Norwegian’s CEO, Geir Karlsen, said,
“Norwegian is pleased to continue our longstanding partnership with CFM. This transaction secures the operational resilience of the airline and will maximize the airline’s aircraft availability and utilization. It further reflects Norwegian’s commitment to the latest technology CFM engines.”
