Lufthansa Group has signed an agreement with Airbus for 10 Airbus A350-1000s and five additional A350-900s. The firm order supports the company’s decarbonization strategy, as the A350 Family of aircraft offers a significant reduction in fuel consumption and emissions.
On Thursday (March 2, 2023), Airbus announced that the Lufthansa Group has placed a firm order for 10 new Airbus A350-1000s and five additional A350-900s. Additionally, Airbus and Lufthansa have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further strengthen cooperation in the fields of sustainability and future technologies. This includes a commitment to accelerate the use of SAF, the further optimization of operations through more efficient flight management, and the exploration of the use of hydrogen. With the new order, Lufthansa strengthens their long-standing relationship with Airbus. Since the A300 in the 1970’s, Lufthansa has operated all Airbus Family products, including the A220, A320 Family, A330, A340, A350 and A380.
In Thursday’s announcement, Airbus’ Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International, Christian Scherer, said,
“We are honoured to see Lufthansa topping up its A350 order book to a total of 60 aircraft, joining the increasing number of A350-1000 customers around the world. With economic and sustainability pressures becoming a measurable reality as international flying increases again, so do the massive advantages of the A350 as the only clean sheet design and therefore the most efficient solution. By adding the largest A350 family member to its fleet, Lufthansa will benefit from Airbus’ full fleet commonality, offering unmatched operational flexibility and vast economic benefits.”
The Airbus A350 Family is the world’s most modern and efficient widebody aircraft, and the long-range leader in the 300-410 seat category. The aircraft’s clean sheet design includes state-of-the-art technologies and aerodynamics that deliver unmatched standards of comfort and efficiency. With new generation engines and lightweight materials, the A350 is the most fuel-efficient large widebody aircraft, and the quietest aircraft in its class with a 50 percent smaller noise footprint compared to previous generation aircraft. The A350's Airspace cabin is also the quietest of any twin-aisle jet, and offers guests and crews the most modern and comfortable inflight experience. At January 31, 2023, the Airbus A350 Family had won 925 firm orders from 54 customers worldwide, making it one of the most successful widebody aircraft ever.
