On Tuesday (April 23, 2024), Lufthansa announced that the Group’s newest carrier, Lufthansa City Airlines will officially open ticket sales on April 24, 2024.  Lufthansa City’s inaugural flight will take to the skies on June 26, 2024, with service between Munich and Birmingham.  Lufthansa City Airlines is fully integrated into the feeder network of Lufthansa’s hubs in Frankfurt and Munich.  Initially, the new airline will launch flights to European and domestic German destinations such as Birmingham, Hanover and Düsseldorf.

In Tuesday’s announcement, Lufthansa City Airlines’ Managing Director – Operations, Jens Fehlinger, said,

“Lufthansa City Airlines is contributing to the future viability of the hubs in Munich and Frankfurt.  We are looking forward to new modern Airbus A220 and A320neo deliveries in the coming years.  For our guests and employees, we are driving forward our renewal and thus strengthening Lufthansa's planned growth in long-haul traffic.”

Lufthansa City Airlines is launching operations with Airbus A320 Family jets.  However, the Lufthansa Group has ordered 40 brand new Airbus A220-300s, while securing purchase options for 20 more.  This sends a clear signal for the direction of what the new carrier’s future fleet might look like.  Guests traveling with Lufthansa City Airlines can look forward to the same exceptional product and services offered by Lufthansa on short and medium-haul routes.
