On Friday (April 25, 2025), Lufthansa Cargo announced the Christening of their newest Boeing 777 Freighter, with the ceremony taking place yesterday (April 24th) in Buenos Aires.  The new aircraft, registration D-ALFL, has been named ¡Hola Argentina!, and will serve as an ambassador for the carrier’s bond with Argentina.  Lufthansa Cargo has been flying to South America’s second-largest country and their Frankfurt hub since 1970.  Argentina remains an important pillar in the South American trade network with agricultural products, energy, and raw materials.

Speaking at a ceremony at Buenos Aires Airport on Thursday, Lufthansa Cargo’s CEO, Ashwin Bhat, said,

“South America is and will continue to be an important growth market for Lufthansa Cargo. Especially in the perishables industry, we have built strong partnerships with our customers over the last three decades.  With the christening of our latest freighter, we are emphasizing our commitment to Argentina and, in line with our motto of ‘enabling global business’, are also committing to this market and our customers.”

Together with markets such as Brazil, Chile, Peru and Uruguay, which are valued globally for their exports of raw materials and agricultural products, the region is increasingly important for intercontinental trade flows.  Likewise, demand for high-value imported goods such as electronics and automobiles is growing throughout the region.  For summer 2025, Lufthansa Cargo will offer an additional weekly frequency to both Buenos Aires and Curitiba, with seven and four weekly frequencies, respectively.  The cargo carrier’s South American Freighter network includes Viracopos (VCP), Montevideo (MVD), Buenos Aires (EZE) and Curitiba (CWB).

Lufthansa Cargo has been operating an all Boeing 777F long-haul fleet since 2021.Currently, this consists of 12 of their own freighters and six aircraft managed by AeroLogic, a joint venture between Lufthansa Cargo and DHL.  Additionally, the carrier operates a fleet of four Airbus A321F on short and medium-haul routes for expedited transportation within Europe and the Middle East.
