Lufthansa Cargo Appoints Frank Bauer as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Human Resources Officer

Lufthansa Cargo has appointed Frank Bauer as Chief Financial and Chief Human Resources Officer effective August 1st, 2023.

On Thursday (July 6, 2023), Lufthansa Cargo announced the appointment of Frank Bauer as the company’s new Chief Financial Officer and Chief Human Resources Officer effective August 1st, 2023. Mr. Bauer started his career with Lufthansa in 2007 before joining Jade Cargo in China in 2010. In 2012, he returned to Deutsche Lufthansa AG and served in a range of management roles in the following years. He headed the Lufthansa Group’s Internal Audit Department, and served as a member of the Executive Board of Eurowings, where he was responsible for Finance and Human resources. Most recently, he headed the Controlling and Risk Management for the Group.


In Thursday’s announcement, Lufthansa Cargo AG’s Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Dr. Michael Niggemann, said,


“I am delighted that Frank Bauer, an experienced finance and HR expert with great expertise in the logistics sector, will complement and strengthen the Executive Board of Lufthansa Cargo. He has proven his management skills in various leadership positions in the Lufthansa Group. The Lufthansa Cargo Executive Board, which is now complete again, will master future challenges under the leadership of Chairman Ashwin Bhat and, together with the company's employees, further expand Lufthansa Cargo's global leadership position.”


Dr. Christian Leifeld will take over responsibility for Controlling and Risk Management at the Lufthansa Group as Frank Bauer’s successor on August 1st. Mr. Leifeld started his career in 2003 with McKinsey. After founding the start-up InterNations, now part of New Work SE, and serving as CFO there, he joined the E.ON Group in 2009, where he served in numerous management positions. He was responsible for E.ON’s Group Controlling from 2017 and subsequently for Group Controlling, Accounting & Risk, before serving as Country CFO for the company in the Czech Republic from 2020 to 2023.


With revenue of €4.6 billion and 7.2 billion freight ton kilometers in 2022, Lufthansa Cargo is one of the world’s leading air freight companies, employing approximately 4,100 team members worldwide. The cargo carrier serves around 300 destinations in over 100 countries with a dedicated fleet of freighters, as well as belly-hold cargo capacity of passenger aircraft operated by Lufthansa German Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings Discover and SunExpress. In 2022, the company reached important milestones such as the investment of continuous expansion of the Boeing 777F fleet, the expansion of short and medium-haul networks with Airbus A321 freighters, and the continuation of the SAF program. The airline is currently equipping their fleet of dedicated 777 Freighters with Sharkskin technology to reduce drag, and expand their SAF program to further reduce CO2 emissions. The company also operates an extensive road feeder service network. Lufthansa Cargo is a wholly owned subsidiary of Deutsche Lufthansa AG and is the Group’s logistics specialist.
