Lufthansa’s newly painted iconic Lockheed L-1649A Super Star aircraft has arrived at the Lufthansa Group Conference and Visitor Center in Frankfurt, and will go on display in spring 2026.

On Thursday (August 14, 2025), Lufthansa announced that their legendary Lockheed L-1649A Super Star aircraft has arrived in Frankfurt, following the authentic 1950s-era repainting, supported by historical documents and modern technology. The aircraft will go on permanent display at the new Lufthansa Group Conference and Visitor Center from spring 2026, along with the iconic Junkers JU 52, just in time for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the first Lufthansa.
The fuselage and tail unit arrived in Frankfurt by heavy-duty transport on Wednesday Evening (August 13th), with the wings to follow next week. Along with the legendary Junkers Ju 52, the Lockheed Super Star will be the main attraction of the new building, and thanks to a glass façade, visitors will also be able to admire the aviation history icons from the outside. The Lockheed Super Star joined the Lufthansa fleet in 1957 and was the first aircraft to feature the exclusive Senator class. The aircraft was mainly used on the nonstop transatlantic route between Hamburg and New York.
Lufthansa's Iconic Lockheed Super Star Arrives in Frankfurt for Permanent Display at the Lufthansa Group Conference and Visitor Center
Located near the Lufthansa Aviation Center (LAC), the Lufthansa Group began construction of a new conference and visitor center at Frankfurt Airport in 2024, which will be a place of collaboration for employees, customers, business partners, and aviation enthusiasts. Visitors will be able to explore numerous exhibits from Lufthansa’s corporate history in an open gallery, some of which will be on display to the public for the first time. Through the exhibits, Lufthansa’s pioneering spirit will be brought to life, not only in regard to the company’s history, but especially in relation to the future of aviation. Like the Group’s training and conference hotel, ‘Lufthansa Seeheim,’ the Frankfurt conference and visitor center will also be open for external events and will offer visitors culinary delights in a coffee lounge.
