On Wednesday (July 2, 2025), LATAM Group announced that they are making a $60 million dollar investment to equip their widebody long-haul fleet with state-of-the art connectivity technology developed by Viasat.  The carrier will begin offering Wi-Fi on widebody long-haul flights, including service from Santiago to New York and Sydney, between Lima and Madrid, and from São Paulo to London, among others. Implementation will begin in 2026, complementing the existing connectivity currently available on most short and medium haul flights.  The company expects 100 percent of their single aisle fleet will be equipped with Wi-Fi by the end of 2025.

In Wednesday’s announcement, LATAM Airlines Group’s Vice President of Customers, Paulo Miranda, said,

“Our vision is to constantly evolve.  The connectivity we are announcing today is about more than just onboard internet; it represents how we combine innovation and active listening to deliver a modern, connected experience that aligns with what our passengers truly value.”

Also commenting on the connectivity collaboration, Viasat’s VP and General Manager – Commercial Aviation, Don Buchman, added,

“This is more than just onboard Wi-Fi; the next-generation connectivity service on LATAM Group’s aircraft represents a complete transformation and the natural evolution of how high-quality connectivity can deliver an exceptional experience.”

Currently, LATAM operates the largest connected fleet in the region, with over 250 aircraft equipped with Wi-Fi, which has already been used by more than eight million guests.  The carrier has selected Viasat Amara for their widebody fleet, which combines a multi-orbital network of geostationary (GEO) and low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, ensuring a high-speed, low-latency internet connection with global coverage, even in remote areas like the South Pacific.  The Wi-Fi service is part of LATAM Play, the platform that brings together all onboard connectivity and entertainment systems into a single channel, offering more than 300 movies, over 1,000 TV episodes, more than 2,000 music tracks, reading content, and productions from three onboard streaming platforms, including Disney+, HBO Max, and Paramount+.
