As part of their joint venture with Delta Air Lines, LATAM Airlines has inaugurated new service between São Paulo and Los Angeles, with the first flight touching down at LAX on Wednesday, August 2nd.
On Wednesday (August 2, 2023), LATAM Airlines announced the start of new service between São Paulo, Brazil (GRU) and Los Angeles (LAX) as part of their joint venture with Delta Air Lines. The Boeing 777-300ER landed at LAX on Wednesday morning making Los Angeles the first West Coast city with a direct connection to Brazil, complementing LATAM’s existing service to Miami (MIA), Orlando (MCO), New York (JFK) and Boston (BOS). The route will now operate three times weekly with a Boeing 777 featuring 38 Premium Business, 50 Economy+ and 322 Economy Class seats. From November 2023, the route will be serviced with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, with capacity for 30 Premium Business Class customers, 57 in Premium Economy and 213 in Economy.
In Wednesday’s announcement, LATAM Airlines’ Vice President – North America, Mexico, the Caribbean and Asia, Paola Penarete, said,
“LATAM and Delta’s goal with this joint venture is to bring South America closer to the U.S., and this direct flight between Los Angeles and São Paulo is an important milestone in this partnership. This new route demonstrates our commitment to increasing connectivity between the U.S. and Brazil, and both airlines promise to continue delivering faster and more practical solutions for all our passengers in North and South America.”
Also commenting on the launch of the new route, Delta Air Lines’ Sales Manager, Danillo Barbizan, said,
“The launch of the São Paulo-Los Angeles route, the only direct flight to the West Coast of the United States from Brazil, is a very important step for Delta and LATAM's plan to connect North and South America like never before. Another crucial point of the new route is to provide easier and faster connections for LATAM´s customers from Los Angeles, where Delta offers flights to more than 20 popular North American destinations, including San Francisco, Las Vegas and Seattle.”
The new direct 12 hour flight between São Paulo and Los Angeles cuts four hours off the trip compared to flights connecting through Santiago or Lima, where LATAM also offers flights. Inbound guests to São Paulo will also enjoy seamless onward connectivity to over 120 popular South American destinations with LATAM across Brazil, Peru and Chile. Under the LATAM-Delta joint venture, LATAM Pass and Delta SkyMiles loyalty members can earn and redeem points/miles. Members also enjoy reciprocal Elite benefits such as seat selection fee waiver on LATAM flights, priority check-in, boarding and baggage handling, as well as TSA security check through, preferred seats and extra baggage allowance. Eligible guests can also enjoy access to 53 Delta Sky Club lounges in the U.S. and five LATAM lounges in South America.
