On Thursday (July 17, 2025), KLM Royal Dutch Airlines announced the launch of new service between Amsterdam and Kittilä, Finland for the winter 2025/26 season. Flights to Kittilä will operate once weekly on Sundays with a Boeing 737-800 from November 23, 2025 through March 22, 2026. Flight KL1261 departs Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) at 12:20 and arrives at Kittilä Airport (KTT) at 16:20. The return flight, KL1262, leaves Kittilä at 17:10 local time, reaching Amsterdam at 19:20 (all times local). The flight duration is approximately 3 hours.
Kittilä serves as the gateway to Finnish Lapland, and provides travelers convenient access to the ski areas Levi and Ylläs. In addition to slope skiing, visitors can enjoy a range of other winter activities, such as cross-country skiing, reindeer safaris, and husky tours, among others. This makes Kittilä a popular destination for adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts. With this new route, KLM is responding to the growing demand for Lapland as a winter destination. KLM is also expanding expanding their flight schedule to Rovaniemi, the home of Santa Claus, from three to four times a week (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday).
