Yesterday (September 16th), together with Copenhagen Airport, passengers, partners and crewmembers, KLM celebrated the very first flights to/from Copenhagen with their brand new Airbus A321neo.
On Tuesday (September 17, 2024), KLM Royal Dutch Airlines announced the inaugural flight of their brand new Airbus A321neo to and from Copenhagen Airport, which took place on Monday (September 16th). The occasion was celebrated by Copenhagen Airport officials, passengers, partners and crewmembers. The A321neo delivers a reduction of fuel use and CO2 emissions by 21 percent compared to previous generation aircraft. In the coming years, KLM will replace their older Boeing 737s with Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft as part of their medium-haul fleet renewal.
In Tuesday’s announcement, Air France-KLM’s General Manager – North Europe, Tom Verbugt, said,
“It was fantastic to welcome this new aircraft to Copenhagen. This is an important step in our fleet renewal program. Over the next few years, KLM will invest seven billion euros in the renewal of the fleet. On European medium-haul routes, we will replace the older Boeing 737 with Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft. We are receiving three more A321neo aircraft this year.”
Also commenting on KLM’s inaugural A321neo flight, Air France-KLM’s Marketing Manager – North Europe, Maria Hagelberg, said,
“Our goal is to reduce our emissions by 30% by 2030. The addition of this new generation of aircraft is key to reducing emissions from flying. In addition to being 21% more fuel efficient and producing less noise, it also comes with several improvements for our passengers, such as more comfort and convenience thanks to wider seats, larger tables and more spacious luggage racks and a wider aisle. Each seat is equipped with a USB-C port and a holder for a mobile or tablet. We hope our passengers will appreciate our newest addition to the fleet.”
With the delivery of these new generation aircraft, KLM continues their over century old tradition of giving aircraft unique names. Over the last 104 years, various themes have been used such as the names of members of the Royal Family, bridges, aviation pioneers and national parks. The theme for this new series of aircraft is butterflies, which was selected by KLM team members.
