On Friday (June 23, 2023), Jetstar announced the launch of seasonal service between Cairns and Newcastle which will operate three times weekly on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays from June 24, 2023 through October 28, 2023. The route will be operated with an Airbus A320 providing 4,400 seats monthly. In partnership with Cairns Airport and Newcastle Airport, this is the third year in a row that Jetstar has introduced low fares between the two cities, just in time for the school holidays.
In Friday’s announcement, Jetstar’s Chief Customer Officer, Alan McIntyre, said,
“We’re really excited to relaunch our seasonal Cairns to Newcastle flights and it’s fantastic our customers have responded so positively to our amazing low fares. We’ve seen thousands of bookings already in both directions and many flights are close to fully booked, especially in the first couple of weeks of the four-month service. We thank Cairns Airport and Newcastle Airport for their support of the route.”
Also commenting on the launch of the new seasonal service, Cairns Airport’s CEO, Richard Barker, said,
“Demand in previous years has been very strong. Both destinations offer attractive holiday options, whether escaping the cold in idyllic Tropical North Queensland or exploring the premium wine regions of regional NSW.”
Newcastle Airport’s CEO, Dr. Peter Cock, added,
“People from our region love Tropical North Queensland, and the direct service between Newcastle and Cairns makes it easier than ever to get there. Demand for travel in both directions is incredibly strong and with the continued support of our region we hope the Newcastle to Cairns service will extend beyond October 2023 to a year-round service.”
