JetBlue has today celebrated the final revenue flight of their legacy Embraer E190 aircraft. This milestone also coincides with the delivery of the carrier’s 50th Airbus A220-300, which offers longer range and superior operating economics.

On Tuesday (September 9, 2025), JetBlue announced that their Embraer E190 fleet has officially retired after the final passenger revenue flight today. After nearly two decades of service in JetBlue’s fleet, guests aboard the commemorative E190 flight from New York-JFK to Boston enjoyed gate-side events at both cities. As part of the special commemorative flight, the aircraft was captained by JetBlue’s Chief Operating Officer, Warren Christie, who also commanded the inaugural JetBlue E190 flight back in 2005. JetBlue was the first airline in the world to fly the 100-seat Embraer E190. The airline's E190s have now been replaced with Airbus A220-300s, which unlock new possibilities for route expansion, including for transcontinental markets. The A220-300 also offers lower direct operating costs and optimized fuel efficiency compared to the E190.
In Tuesday’s announcement, JetBlue’s Chief Operating Officer, Warren Christie, said
“I am proud to operate today’s flight, as it marks a significant evolution of our fleet. The E190 was instrumental in our early years and proved to deliver on critical connectivity in short-haul markets, allowing us to grow into new regions, especially in our New York and Boston focus cities. As one of the originating crewmembers to launch the E190 at JetBlue, it is an honor to pilot our final E190 revenue flight.”
As previously mentioned, the retirement of the E190 coincides with the recent delivery of JetBlue’s 50th Airbus A220 aircraft. In total, the airline has received 52 of 100 Airbus A220s on order, simplifying their fleet to two types, namely Airbus A320 and A220 Family jets. The A220 is a cornerstone of JetBlue’s ongoing fleet modernization strategy, offering best-in-class economics and a superior onboard experience. JetBlue’s A220s are configured with 140 Collins Meridian seats, the widest in JetBlue’s fleet, along with spacious overhead bins, custom designed seatback storage, easy-to-reach in-seat power with AC, USB-A and USB-C ports, extra-large windows, fast and free Fly-Fi® and personalized inflight entertainment at every seat.
JetBlue is ‘New York’s Hometown Airline®’ and a leading carrier in Boston (BOS), Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Los Angeles (LAX), Orlando (MCO) and San Juan (SJU). The airline carries guests to over 100 destinations across the U.S., Caribbean, Latin America, and Europe. JetBlue Airways Corporation trades on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol JBLU.
