On Monday (August 31, 2020), JetBlue announced a new partnership with Puerto Rico’s leading financial institution, Popular. The companies have launched two co-branded credit cards for customers in Puerto Rico including the new JetBlue Mastercard and the JetBlue Mastercard Eleva. With both ticket and everyday purchases, cardholders will get one step closer to traveling to the destination of their choice, as both cards provide an opportunity to earn TrueBlue points that never expire. Additionally, both cards offer a welcome bonus of either 5,000 or 25,000 TrueBlue points when customers reach the purchase requirement within 90 days of opening their account. For added peace of mind, both cards also feature contactless technology that allows customers to bring the card close to the terminal’s Contactless Symbol when making purchases. In Tuesday’s announcement, Popular’s Vice President of Retail Lending, Solimar Cedeño said,

“Nowadays people like to travel, visit new places and meet up with friends and family. Connecting the dreams of our customers to financial solutions is an important part of Popular’s culture, which is why we partnered with JetBlue to create these two new products that offer great benefits. Although the pandemic has modified our behaviors, clients can plan for the future and eventually travel when they decide to do so.”

Also commenting on the new co-branded credit cards, JetBlue’s Vice President of Loyalty and Personalization, Don Uselmann added,

“As the largest airline in Puerto Rico, we want to reward our loyal customers in the region. Popular also has strong roots in Puerto Rico, and as a like-minded partner is dedicated the island’s success. We’re excited to launch our partnership with Popular by offering two new credit card options presenting our customers with even more benefits. The JetBlue Mastercard and JetBlue Mastercard Eleva cards from Popular provide our customers in Puerto Rico with value and flexibility to earn points on their everyday purchases. With each purchase, cardmembers are one step closer to traveling to see loved ones, when the time is right.”

The JetBlue Mastercard is the only travel card in Puerto Rico without an annual fee that allows customers to earn points on every purchase. When customers book flights on JetBlue with the card, they will accumulate two TrueBlue points for every dollar spent, while they will receive one TrueBlue point for each dollar spent on all other purchases. The premium JetBlue Mastercard Eleva card has a $99 annual fee but allows customers to earn three TrueBlue points for every dollar spent on JetBlue and one TrueBlue point for every dollar spent on other purchases. The Eleva card offers additional benefits including a free checked bag for the cardholder and up to three travel companions, when the card is used to purchase flights operated by JetBlue, as well as a $100 annual statement credit on the purchase of a JetBlue Vacations package.
