On Friday (November 11, 2022), ITA Airways outlined their fleet growth and route expansion plans for 2023. The carrier has signed all fleet commitments and will receive 39 new Airbus aircraft in 2023, including nine Airbus A330-300s and 30 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft. In comparison to 2022, the carrier will increase seat capacity, as measured by available seat per kilometer (ASK), by 73 percent, with long-haul capacity growing by 107 percent. Additionally, ITA will offer new intercontinental destinations next year including service between Rome Fiumicino and San Francisco, Washington, D.C. and Rio de Janeiro. With the addition of A321neos, the carrier will also expand their Middle East network with new service from Rome to Riyadh, Jeddah and Kuwait City.
With the fleet expansion, ITA Airways expects to operate Europe’s greenest fleet by 2026, with 80 percent of their fleet consisting of new generation aircraft. By year-end 2023, half of ITA’s 96-strong fleet will be new generation aircraft, and legacy aircraft will be phased out as the new airplanes are delivered. In just over a year since the airline’s launch, ITA has fulfilled their growth commitments for 2022, and has laid the foundation to further increase their market presence, with a continuous expansion of their domestic, international and intercontinental network.
