ITA Airways Launches New Direct Service Between Rome Fiumicino and Jeddah

ITA Airways has launched new nonstop service between Rome Fiumicino and Jeddah, complementing existing service to Riyadh.  The route will now operate three times weekly with an airbus A321neo.

On Friday (August 2, 2024), ITA Airways announced the launch of their first flight between Rome Fiumicino and Jeddah, with the inaugural flight touching down at King Abdulaziz International Airport at 21:10 on Thursday, August 1st, 2024.  Upon arrival in Jeddah, the aircraft, and Airbus A321neo, was greeted by a traditional water canon salute.  The route will now operate three times per week with a state-of-the-art Airbus A321neo.  Flights will depart Jeddah on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 03:30 and arrive in Rome at 07:00+1.  Rome-Jeddah flights will depart Rome Fiumicino on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 15:05, and will touch down in Jeddah at 21:10 (all times local).


In Friday’s announcement, ITA Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer and CEO of Volare, Emiliana Limosani, said,


"We are delighted to inaugurate our first nonstop flight between Jeddah and Rome, strengthening our presence in Saudi Arabia, a rapidly growing market.  This new opening follows the launch of the nonstop connection to Riyadh in June and is part of our ongoing summer network expansion, which boasts excellent booking results.  Operated with the state-of-the-art A321neo, this new flight will expand the medium-haul network and enhance commercial and cultural exchanges between the Arabian Peninsula and Italy, while also providing connections with our array of destinations accessible via our Rome Fiumicino hub.”


Also commenting on the new service, Jeddah Airport’s CEO Mazin Johar, and the Saudia


Arabia Air Connectivity Program’s CEO, Majid Khan, said in a joint statement,


“We are delighted to see ITA Airways commencing the route between Rome and our coastal and historical city of Jeddah, which will further enhance our air connectivity to KSA.  Travelers from ITA Airways’ network in Italy, Europe, and the Americas will enjoy a more seamless journey to explore the untapped potential of Jeddah.  We look forward to further strengthening our collaboration with a great partner, ITA Airways.”


The inaugural Jeddah-Rome flight departed at 03:30 on Friday (August 2nd) following a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the departure gate in Jeddah attended by Irene Buongiorno, Vice Consul General of Italy in Jeddah, Rashed Al-Shammari, Vice President of Aviation Development at Air Connectivity Program, Glen Wilson, Vice President of Operations of Jeddah Airports, Amira Afandi, Director of Corporate Communication and Public Relations at Jeddah Airports, Pierfrancesco Carino, Vice President International Sales ITA Airways, and Benedetto Mencaroni, Regional Manager for Asia, Middle East, and Africa ITA Airways.


ITA Airways’ Airbus A321neo features 12 Business Class, 12 Premium Economy, and 141 Economy Class seats, including 12 Comfort Economy.  The cabin interior has been entirely designed by Walter de Silva, and embodies the elegance and style of Italy.  The aircraft has also been equipped with the latest generation of seats, custom interior lighting, XL overhead bins, and the latest ‘on-demand’ IFE system displayed on 17.3-inch Business, 15.6-inch Premium Economy and 13.3-inch Economy Class seatback screens.


Including the new route to Jeddah, ITA Airways is serving 57 destinations for the summer season, including 16 domestic, 26 international, and 15 intercontinental.  During the peak summer season, the carrier is also serving 12 additional seasonal destinations, including popular Mediterranean hotspots.  For summer 2024, ITA has launched new service to Chicago, Toronto, Riyadh, Jeddah and Dakar, and will also add new service to Dubai on October 27th, and to Bangkok on November 16, 2024.
