On Friday (June 3, 2022), ITA Airways announced the launch of inaugural service between Rome Fiumicino and Buenos Aires, with flight AZ680 departing Rome at 21:40 Thursday evening following a ribbon cutting ceremony. The flight was operated with a new Airbus A350-900 dedicated to former Italian footballer and Balloon d’Or recipient Roberto Baggio, who was on hand for the special event. ITA also debuted their new uniforms onboard the flight which were designed by the airline’s team in collaboration with Brunello Cucinelli. The new A350’s interior was designed by Walter De Silva, and guests on the inaugural flight were also treated to an all-new catering concept designed by Michelin-starred Chef, Enrico Bartolini.
Speaking at the ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday evening (June 2, 2022), Roberto Baggio said,
“I am proud of this opportunity that ITA Airways has offered to me. When I was told, I was amazed: I never thought that I would have a plane with my name on it! The element that I particularly care about and that binds me to ITA Airways is the focus on young people. We are working together on a "youth project" that will allow young talents to fly to higher destinations thanks to a dedicated call with the Gilardi Foundation on Italy-Argentina projects.”
The new route between Rome and Buenos Aires will operate five times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with the return flight from Buenos Aires operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. From August 2022, the route frequency will be increased to daily service. ITA Airways’ guests traveling to Buenos Aires can also enjoy seamless onward connections via Aerolíneas Argentinas to 34 domestic destinations in Argentina.
For summer 2022, ITA Airways is offering service to 63 new destinations, including 22 domestic, 34 international and seven intercontinental. The carrier also has codeshare agreements with 24 airlines, providing convenient connectivity from Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate to their hubs, for a total of over 300 destinations served under ITA Airways’ own codes.
Italia Trasporto Aereo (ITA Airways) was founded in November 2020 and is the new Italian national carrier wholly-owned by the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance.
