On Tuesday (August 5, 2025), IndiGo announced the groundbreaking for a new world class MRO facility at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru.  The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by government dignitaries along with airport and airline leadership including Ms. Gunjan Krishna IAS, Commissioner-Industries, Government of Karnataka; Mr. Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo; Mr. Hari Marar, Chief Executive Officer, BIAL; Mr. Isidre Porqueras, Chief Operating Officer, IndiGo; Mr. Satyaki Raghunath, Chief Operating Officer, BIAL and Mr. Parichay Datta, Senior Vice President – Engineering, IndiGo.

In Tuesday’s announcement, IndiGo’s CEO, Pieter Elbers, said,

This also strengthens our operational presence in Bengaluru which is one of our largest bases with over 200 daily flights.  This is also an important step towards shaping the future of the Indian aviation by developing a holistic aviation ecosystem in the nation.”

The new facility will be one of India’s largest MROs, and is being built on 31 acres of land recently allocated by Bangalore International Airport Ltd.  This facility will be three times the size of the combined capacity of IndiGo’s existing MROs in Delhi and Bengaluru.  The project is expected to be completed and operational by the beginning of 2028, and will have a capacity of up to 12 bays, and the capability to handle both single-aisle and widebody aircraft.  With over 400 aircraft in their fleet, IndiGo’s dedicated MRO facilities will facilitate greater aircraft availability, better cost efficiencies, and quicker turnaround times.
