On Thursday (March 24, 2022), De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited announced the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) with India’s Big Charter Private Limited, parent company of flybig, for the purchase of up to ten DHC Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft. The companies will continue to work towards a definitive agreement that will include five firm orders and five options. The flexible, versatile and durable Twin Otter has earned a sterling global reputation for its ability to operate in a variety of extreme environments. From commercial operations to executive and private travel, the Twin Otter supports operators across a breadth of industries. As a regional connectivity solution, the aircraft is popular for island hopping and commuter operations, with a flexible quick change cabin that can accommodate up to 19 guests.

In today’s announcment, flybig’s Chairman and Managing Director, Captain Sanjay Mandavia, said,

"In conjunction with the UDAN initiative, the Indian Government’s recently released policy to assist in serving small and remote communities, flybig’s goal is to provide connectivity to communities that were not previously accessible by air. De Havilland Canada’s Twin Otter Series 400 is the right aircraft for our operations because of its proven record for safe, reliable operations and its versatility -- including the capability to land on land or water.”

Also commenting on the future Twin Otter order, De Havilland Canada’s Vice President – Sales and Marketing, Phillipe Poutissou, said,

“We are very excited to be working with flybig to connect underserved destinations that currently rely on inconvenient and inefficient modes of transportation. It is always a source of pride when De Havilland Canada aircraft are selected by a new operator and we welcome this opportunity to work with flybig to increase connectivity across India.”

With over 5,000 aircraft delivered worldwide, De Havilland Aircraft of Canada (DHC) is dedicated to advancing their nearly 100-year reputation for excellence in innovation, production and customer support. The company’s flexible aircraft portfolio, including the DHC Dash 8-400 and Twin Otter Series 400 turboprop aircraft, operate in some of the world’s most inhospitable climates, providing essential passenger and cargo connectivity between rural communities and urban centers. Additionally, the company’s aircraft support a wide variety of special mission operations including aerial firefighting, search and rescue, medical evacuation, reconnaissance and coastal surveillance. In February 2022, De Havilland Canada became the operating brand for Longview Aviation, Viking Air Ltd. and Pacific Sky Training.
