Initially the route will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays until May 11th, and from May 16th once weekly on Saturdays. Additionally, Icelandair has increased frequencies to popular destinations in Southern Europe, including Tenerife, Las Palmas, Alicante, and Barcelona. Service has also been expanded to key European cities such as Copenhagen and Paris.
In Thursday’s announcement, Icelandair’s CEO, Bogi Nils Bogason, said,
“We are seeing strong demand for destinations in Southern Europe and want to ensure that Icelandic travelers and international guests have diverse and convenient connections. Faro is an exciting destination that many Icelanders are familiar with, and we are pleased to offer flights there starting next spring. With this addition and increased frequency to other popular destinations, we are strengthening our network and further increasing our offering to sunny destinations.”
Founded in 1937, Icelandair uses their unique geographical location as a hub midway between Europe and North America, and offers direct flights to over 60 destinations in the UK, Scandinavia, continental Europe, and North America, including four domestic destinations in Iceland and four destinations in Greenland. The carrier also operates an airfreight and logistics business, as well as leasing and consulting services.
