On Friday (September 5, 2025), Icelandair announced the launch of their inaugural flight between Reykjavík and Istanbul, Türkiye, providing customers new connections to Asia and the Middle East.  The route will now operate 2-3 times weekly, with a flight duration of approximately five hours and 30 minutes.  This new route also marks a significant expansion of Icelandair’s partnership with Turkish Airlines.  Through an enhanced codeshare agreement, first established in summer 2023, travelers can now enjoy seamless connectivity between Iceland and destinations across Asia and the Middle East.

In Friday’s announcement, Icelandair’s President and CEO, Bogi Nils Bogason, said,

“After a long-time planning, we are excited to see the launch of our Istanbul service and to be deepening our collaboration with Turkish Airlines.  This route opens up convenient new travel corridors between Iceland and the East, responding to the growing demand for travel between Asia and Iceland.  Strengthening our route network and partnerships is central to our mission of connecting customers to more destinations and supporting tourism and trade in Iceland.”

Founded in 1937, Icelandair uses their unique geographical location as a hub midway between Europe and North America, and offers direct flights to over 60 destinations in the UK, Scandinavia, continental Europe, and North America, including four domestic destinations in Iceland and four destinations in Greenland. The carrier also operates an airfreight and logistics business, as well as leasing and consulting services.
