Keflavik based Icelandair has become a new Airbus customer with the delivery of the airline’s first A321LR. This is the first of four of the aircraft type that will be delivered to the carrier on lease from SMBC Aviation Capital Limited.
On Tuesday (December 3, 2024), Airbus announced that Icelandair has become a new customer, taking delivery of the first of four Airbus A321LRs on lease from SMBC Aviation Capital Limited. Icelandair will also take delivery of a total of 13 A321XLRs as they continue their fleet renewal program. Powered by efficient Pratt & Whitney GTF engines, Icelandair’s new A321LR is configured for 187 passengers, with 22 Business Class and 165 Economy Class seats. The Airspace cabin features XL overhead bins, providing 60 percent more space compared to previous generation aircraft. Additionally, Icelandair’s guests will enjoy gate-to-gate connectivity, along with the latest generation inflight entertainment (IFE) and lighting systems.
With a range of up to 4,000 nautical miles, the A321LR is ideally suited for transatlantic routes. With cutting edge technology and advanced fuel efficiency, the A321LR delivers at a reduction of at least 20 percent in fuel use and CO2 emissions compared to previous generation single-aisle aircraft. Additionally, like all Airbus aircraft, the A321neo aircraft is already capable of operating on 50 percent SAF, increasing to 100 percent by 2030.
Icelandair’s new A321LR will support the airline’s sustainability efforts, in terms of operational efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions. To date, Airbus has received orders for over 6,700 A321neos from more than 90 customers worldwide.
