For the winter 2022/23 season, Iberia will restore their Air Shuttle service between Madrid and Barcelona to pre-pandemic levels with 86 weekly flights and nearly 700,000 seats for the season. The carrier will offer 15 daily flights, with departures every 15 minutes.
On Monday (July 25, 2022), Iberia announced the restoration of their Air Shuttle frequencies between Madrid and Barcelona to pre-pandemic levels for the winter 2022/23 season, which runs from October 30, 2022 through March 26, 2023. The carrier will offer 86 weekly flights, with 15 daily flights departing every 30 minutes, for a total of nearly 700,000 seats for the season. Wednesday flights will be operated with an Airbus A320neo, thereby being the day with the most available seats. The Iberia Air Shuttle has dedicated areas at the Madrid and Barcelona airports. This year, Iberia celebrates the 95th anniversary of their first flight, which connected Barcelona to Madrid on December 14, 1927, with a 10-passenger Rohrbach-Roland aircraft.
Iberia’s Puente Aéreo (Air Bridge) will cover all time slots, with the first daily flight departing Madrid at 07:00 and the final daily flight at 21:15. Likewise, the first daily flight will depart Barcelona at 07:00, with the final daily flight departing at 21:05. The convenient schedule allows for daily roundtrips, which are of particular interest to business travelers. Even during the height of the global COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021, Iberia maintained vital domestic and international connections, including connections between Madrid and Barcelona. For the winter 2021/22 season, the carrier offered up to 68 weekly flights on the route.
With the added service, Iberia returns to their ‘Arrive and Fly’ philosophy regarding the shuttle service between Madrid and Barcelona. In November 2021, El Prat Airport airport reopened the counters, security control and the VIP lounge near the boarding gates that Iberia uses for the Air Shuttle. In Madrid, the check-in counters, security control and Dalí Lounge are all close to the Air Bridge flights on the north side of Terminal 4. These conveniences allow guests to arrive at the airport up to 20 minutes prior to departure. Additionally, Iberia Air Shuttle customers have total flexibility to change their flights via the Iberia app, as many times as necessary and at no cost.
