On Monday (January 9, 2023), Iberia Maintenance announced the signing of a new agreement with Hong-Kong based low-cost carrier HK Rxpress for MRO services for their V2500 fleet of aircraft engines. As part of the agreement, Iberia Maintenance will offer in-house parts repair capability, work package adjustments to ensure shop visit optimization, and supply of used material (USM). At the end of 2012 and with the support of IAG, Iberia Maintenance began working to obtain the capability to provide MRO services for International Aero Engines (IAE) V2500 engines. In 2015, they received the license from Pratt & Whitney to maintain the engine and joined the IAE network, becoming the first non-IAE member workshop to achieve this capability.

In Monday’s announcement, Iberia’s Maintenance Technical Director, Andy Best, said,

“We are so very honoured that HK Express has chosen to award Iberia MRO with the maintenance of its V2500 engines. This award is a testament to the Iberia maintenance teams striving for improvement as we continue to develop our service offering on the V2500, working closely with industry partners to bring real value to the customer.”

Also commenting on the new MRO partnership, HK Express’ General Manager – Maintenance and Engineering, Alan Tang, said,

“Our vision is to be the leading best practice low-cost carrier in Asia. The HK Express team always looks for the most optimal maintenance solution based on the key guiding principles of agility, efficiency and simplicity. We hope this partnership with Iberia Maintenance will be part of the enabler to our vision.”

The Iberia Mantenimiento Engine Workshop specializes in CFM56, V2500 and RB211 engines, and provides a portfolio of services to international clients, including airlines, OEMs, and other industry stakeholders. MRO services for the V2500 engine represents over 50 percent of the shop’s current business. In October 2022, Iberia Maintenance was also licensed by Pratt & Whitney to service GTF™ engines, and the first engine in the family will be inducted during the second half of 2023.

HK Express is Hong Kong’s low-cost carrier (LCC) and a member of the Cathay Pacific Group. Since its inception, the airline has carried over 19 million passengers, while revolutionizing air transportation across the Asian market.

Iberia Maintenance provides MRO services for IAG Group airlines, manufacturers and the industry at large. The shop provides base maintenances services for all Airbus aircraft operated by IAG, including the Airbus A350 and A320neo Families. Iberia Maintenance’s engine catalog specializes in V2500, CFM56 and RB211 engines, with Pratt & Whitney GTF engines and CFM International LEAP engines to be added soon.
