Iberia Launches New Exclusive Direct Service From Madrid to Rovaniemi

Iberia has launched new exclusive service between Madrid and Rovaniemi with the first flight departing on Saturday, December 2, 2023.  The capital of the Lapland in Finland, Rovaniemi is known as ‘The Land of Santa Claus.’

On Sunday (December 3, 2023), Iberia announced the launch of new exclusive direct service between Madrid (MAD) and Rovaniemi (RVN), the capital of the Lapland in Finland.  The inaugural flight departed Madrid on Saturday, December 2, 2023, as flight IB3384 with a full house of 183 guests.  The route to ‘The Land of Santa Claus’ will now operate twice weekly with an Airbus A320neo on Wednesdays and Saturdays through February 10, 2024.  Guests onboard Saturday’s inaugural flight were treated to a range of surprises, including reindeer-shaped cookies, stickers, and letters from Santa Claus.  Iberia’s cabin crew also wore bells on their lanyards to look like Santa’s official helpers.


Upon Arrival at Rovaniemi Airport, guests were greeted by Santa Claus, and the youngest guests were able to hand deliver the letters they had written onboard.  Tickets are now available for booking on the Madrid-Rovaniemi route from €199 each way as pat of a return purchase.  In Total, Iberia has nearly 7,000 seats available for sale.  As previously mentioned, the route will be operated with an Airbus A320neo powered by CFM International LEAP-1A engines, delivering reduced emissions of 15 to 20 percent and a 50 percent noise reduction compared to previous generation aircraft.

Since 2010, Rovaniemi has officially been the hometown of Santa Claus, where visitors can visit the area’s most famous resident all year at Santa Claus’ Village, located in the Arctic Circle.  The village offers many activities, shops, restaurants and cafes. Visitors can enjoy unique and fun experiences such as dog and reindeer sled rides, snowmobile tours, bespoke ice and snow constructions, and of course, the spectacular northern lights.
