Iberia Inaugurates New Service Between Madrid and Fortaleza, Brazil

Iberia has today announced the launch of their inaugural flight between Madrid and Fortaleza in Brazil, which took place January 19th. The route will now operate three times weekly with an Airbus A321XLR.

On Monday (January 26, 2026), Iberia announced the launch of their inaugural flight between Madrid (MAD) and Fortaleza in northeastern Brazil, with the first plight having taken place on Monday, January 19, 2026. The route will now operate three times weekly on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays with an Airbus A321XLR. Fortaleza becomes Iberia’s fourth destination the Brazil joining Recife São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, making the country to which the carrier flies to the most airports in Latin America.
In Monday’s announcement, Iberia’s Global Sales Director, Victor Moneo, said,
“The opening of the Fortaleza route represents a new and important milestone in our operations with Brazil. With this new destination, which we are inaugurating today, we now have flights to four cities, allowing us to deploy a record capacity in Brazil this year. Furthermore, Brazil will be the only country in Latin America with flights to four different airports. All of this demonstrates Iberia's strong commitment to Brazil, a commitment that will continue in the future.”

As previously mentioned, the Madrid Fortaleza route will be operated with a single-aisle 182-seat Airbus A321XLR featuring Business and Economy Class cabins. In Iberia’s configuration, the aircraft has a range of up to nautical miles (7,500 km), and offers a 40 percent fuel savings compared to a widebody aircraft on the same route.
