Gulf Air Signs Memorandum of Understanding With Ras Al Khaimah International Airport

The Kingdom Bahrain’s national carrier has signed an MoU with Ras Al Khaimah International Airport, with the goal of building connectivity between the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah and the Kingdom of Bahrain.

On Tuesday (January 19, 2021), Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ras Al Khaimah International Airport ) RAK International Airport. The goal of the MoU is to increase connectivity between the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah and the Kingdom of Bahrain, as the former is quickly establishing itself as a major UAE transport and logistics hub. The MoU was signed virtually, and the event was attended by high-ranking executives of both organizations. Speaking on the new partnership, Gulf Air’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Captain Waleed AlAlawi, said,


We are always keen to explore ways to enhance connectivity between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the UAE. As a Boutique carrier, we look forward to adding Ras Al Khaimah to our network of destinations. We are extremely impressed with the facilities that RAK International Airport provides, which will serve the high standards our passengers expect from Gulf Air.”


Also commenting on Tuesday’s MoU announcement, RAK International Airport’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Sanjay Khanna, added,


“The aviation industry has its eyes set on recovery following the difficult year we had in 2020. The air ways are opening up as COVID-19 restrictions gradually ease, and passengers increasingly confident to take to the skies once again. With this in mind, we are delighted to sign this Memorandum of Understanding with Gulf Air to set the stage for flight services between Bahrain and Ras Al Khaimah – along with the Northern Emirates – and enhance Ras Al Khaimah International Airport’s connectivity to destinations around the world. Gulf-state connectivity is a key tenet of our expansion strategy, and with its long history, commendable track record, and vast network, Gulf Air is an ideal partner for this mission. Aiming the o build connectivity between the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah and the Kingdom of Bahrain, this move will allow residents, expats, and tourists in the Northern Emirates of the UAE to connect as far as the Philippines in the east and London in the west.”


RAK international Airport commenced passenger operations last November with the Indian value carrier SpiceJet offering service to Delhi and expanding service to Mumbai, Lucknow and Cochin earlier this year.


Founded in 1950, Gulf Air is the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain and normally serves 48 cities in 26 countries. From its hub at Bahrain International Airport, the airline offers twice daily service to regional cities as well as international flights to the Indian subcontinent and Europe, including daily service to Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport. Gulf Air currently operates a modern fleet of 37 narrow and widebody aircraft and by 2023 their fleet will consist of 10 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, 12 Airbus A320neos and 17 Airbus A321neos (pre-pandemic information). The airline is known for its traditional Arabian hospitality and Gulf Air is committed to becoming an industry leader and developing products and services that reflect the evolving needs and aspirations of their guests.
