Today, Air Canada announced they have been awarded the ‘2019 Airline of the Year’ accolade from Global Traveler Magazine. As part of the vetting process, magazine staff members submitted nominations to an advisory board who then selected winners based on thorough research and numerous other factors. Selection criteria included financial data, safety records, product offerings, onboard service menus and overall brand image. In Monday’s announcement, Air Canada’s President and Chief Executive Officer Calin Rovinescu said,

“I am very pleased that Air Canada has been named the 2019 Airline of the year by Global Traveler. The success we have had transforming our airline into a leading global carrier is being recognized worldwide and we continue to invest in new aircraft, onboard services, airport amenities and a new loyalty program to build our leading position. Mostly, however, this award recognizes the hard work of our employees and their commitment to deliver customer service excellence every day, for which I thank them.”

In 2010, Air Canada embarked on a major multi-year $12B (CAD) expenditure program to completely elevate the travel experience for their guests. Part of the program was a network expansion to almost 220 cities on six continents from their Canadian gateways. The airline has also renewed their fleet, adding Boeing 777s and 787 Dreamliners, while refurbishing the cabins of their Airbus A330s. Additionally, Air Canada has renewed their narrow body fleet which includes the introduction of their first A220-300 this month. Upgrading the international and transcontinental experience, Air Canada introduced “Signature Class Service,” new Maple Leaf Lounge concepts and BMW chauffeur service for select Toronto Pearson global hub customers. Onboard menus have been elevated in collaboration with Canadian celebrity chefs David Hawksworth, Antonio Park and Vikram Vij. Air Canada has also rolled out Wi-fi on all narrow body aircraft and upgraded their digital platforms for enhanced usability across devices.

Air Canada has recently received other prestigious awards including being named “Best Airline in North America” in the 2019 Skytrax World Airline Awards (for the third consecutive year). The airline has also been recognized as one of Canada’s top 100 employers for the seventh time and was honored for “Diversity in Leadership” at the 2019 Airline Strategy Awards.
