On Monday (April 14, 2025), German Airways, Germany’s second oldest airline, announced that their fleet of eight Embraer E190s will gradually be sent into service for comprehensive rebranding, including a refreshed livery.  The first of these aircraft, registration D-AJHW, has left the maintenance hangar at Cologne/Bonn, and will return to passenger revenue service after undergoing final maintenance.  Some striking features of the new livery are the redesigned tailfin, which features a dynamically dotted black, red, and gold flag, as well as the winglets, which are also designed in German colors.  The livery also features the ‘Operating for KLM Cityhopper’ logo.

In Monday’s announcement, German Airways’ Managing Director, Maren Wolters, said,

“After almost five years of operation, the German Airways brand has established itself as an integral part of the European market.  We are now delighted to present the new look almost simultaneously with the launch of the current summer flight schedule.  As a service provider with typically German quality characteristics such as reliability and high technical performance, we also want to take the next step visually.  We are very proud to be able to integrate our strategic partner's logo into the new design – a very important symbol of the appreciation of our services.”

German Airways has the second-oldest operating license in the Federal Republic of Germany.  In addition to their charter business, which includes service to sports teams, the carrier focuses on wet leasing operations.  This includes leasing aircraft and crew to major European airlines.  Currently, most of the German Airways fleet is in service for KLM Cityhopper.
