Luxair and German Airways have entered a wet lease agreement, where Luxair will operate a German Airways Embraer E190 on their European route network. From mid-May, the aircraft will join Luxair’s fleet of Boeing 737s and DHC Dash 8-400s.

Luxair to Operate an Embraer E190 From Mid-May 2022 on Wet Lease From German Airways

On Thursday (February 24, 2022), German Airways, Germany’s second oldest airline, and Luxair, the national carrier of Luxembourg announced a new wet lease partnership. Under the agreement, Luxair will operate a German Airways Embraer E190 on their European network, adding capacity on longer routes for summer 2022 on increasing demand. The Embraer E190 will join Luxair’s current fleet of eight Boeing 737s and 11 De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Dash 8-400s. The German Airways aircraft is configured with 100 seats, providing flexible capacity between the aircraft in Luxair’s operating fleet.

In Thursday’s announcment, Luxair’s CEO, Gilles faith, said,

“We urgently need to expand our capacity on longer routes to support the revival of leisure travel. German Airways' Embraer 190 will relieve our Boeing 737 fleet in the summer to create capacity for the particularly popular holiday destinations, all while maintaining our quality at the highest level. The E190 will increasingly take on flights on business travel routes. The signs are set for growth and this partnership will help us bridge the wait for Luxair to increase its own capacity. Luxair has already used various wet lease capacities in the past in order to be able to react more quickly to market changes.”

Also commenting on the new wet lease partnership, German Airways’ Managing Director, Maren Wolters, said,

“We are very pleased that Luxair is working with us. In this way, we benefit from our good reputation, which we have worked hard to achieve: we are known in the industry as a very reliable service provider with a great deal of know-how. With Luxair, we are adding another major European airline to our customer base, which already includes well-known European airlines.”

Based at Cologne/Bonn Airport, German Airways is a medium-sized provider of aircraft wet lease and charter services. Since 2017, the carrier has belonged to Zeitfracht, a modern logistics company based in Berlin. The airline previously operated under the name WDL Aviation, and German Airways has over 60 years of expertise and experience in the aviation industry, making it one of Europe’s oldest airlines. German Airways operates a fleet of five modern and Economical Embraer E190s, which the company leases to other airlines including crews under wet lease agreements. The carrier previously announced plans to add four more E190s to their fleet in the coming months.
