Frontier Opens New Base in Phoenix; Launches New Routes From Atlanta and Chicago Midway

Frontier Airlines has opened their new base at Phoenix Sky Harbor and launched six routes. On Saturday (November 5th), the carrier also announced new service from Atlanta to Nassau, San Salvador, Kingston and San Jose, Costa Rica, and from Chicago Midway to Florida.

On Friday (November 4, 2022), Frontier Airlines announced the opening of their new base at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX). The base will initially employ up to 180 pilots and 275 cabin crew members, and when combined with airport employees, will generate over $118 million in annual wages to the local economy. The base has opened with six new routes including direct service to Philadelphia (PHL), Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Cincinnati (CVG), Detroit (DTW), Orange County, California (SNA) and Portland Oregon (PDX). Including the new routes, Frontier will offer direct service to 23 destinations from PHX.


In Friday’s announcement, Frontier Airlines’ Senior Vice President of Customers, Jake Filene, said,


“Opening this new crew base is a clear indication of our commitment to continued growth in Phoenix. A thriving and expanding airport is vital to the city’s economic advancement and we are thrilled to be part of that trajectory both as a service provider and major wage contributor. Now more than ever consumers appreciate the value offered by our ultra-low cost business model. We look forward to bringing even more ‘Low Fares Done Right’ to Phoenix-area consumers as we deliver upon our mission to provide affordable travel across America and beyond.”


In a separate press release on Saturday (November 5, 2022), Frontier announced the launch of new service from Atlanta to Nassau, Bahamas (NAS), San Salvador, El Salvador (SAL) Kingston, Jamaica (KIN), and San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO). Nassau and El Salvador service started this weekend, while flights between Atlanta and Kingston, Jamaica will commence on Monday, November 7, 2022. Service to San Jose, Costa Rica will start later this month. Including the new routes, Frontier now offers direct service from Atlanta to 37 destinations.


In Saturday’s announcement, Frontier Airlines’ Senior Vice President, Daniel Schurz, said,


“Frontier Airlines is thrilled to become the second largest international carrier at ATL—and the only ultra-low fare carrier providing international service from Atlanta. We are excited to continue to grow in Atlanta and provide more consumers in the United States and abroad the opportunity to take advantage of our ‘Low Fares Done Right.”


Frontier Airlines also announced on Saturday (November 5, 2022), the launch of new nonstop service from Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) to Miami (MIA) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL). With the new routes, Frontier now offers nonstop service to 11 destinations from Chicago Midway.


Further commenting on the new Chicago Midway routes, Frontier’s Daniel Shurz, said,


“We’re thrilled to launch these exciting routes from MDW. South Florida is a popular wintertime escape for Chicagoans. Getting there is now a whole lot easier thanks to Frontier’s ‘Low Fares Done Right.’”
