Pratt & Whitney has today announced that Frontier Airlines has selected GTF™ engines to power 91 Airbus A321neo aircraft, bringing the airline’s commitment to 235 GTF-powered aircraft, including those already delivered.

On Monday (June 16, 2025), from the Paris Air Show 2025, Pratt & Whitney announced that Frontier Airlines has selected Pratt & Whitney GTF™ engines to power 91 Airbus A321neo aircraft, the first of which is scheduled for delivery in Q4 2026. Frontier will also receive engine maintenance through a long-term EngineWise® Comprehensive service agreement. This follow on order expands Frontier’s total commitment to 235 GTF-powered A320neo Family aircraft, including already delivered aircraft. Currently, Frontier Airlines operates the largest and youngest A320neo Family fleet in the U.S
In Monday’s announcement, Pratt & Whitney’s President – Commercial Engines, Rick Deurloo, said,
“Four years ago, we welcomed Frontier Airlines to the Pratt & Whitney GTF family and this selection demonstrates the airline’s confidence in the GTF engine. With this latest order, Frontier will continue to realize the benefits of the most fuel-efficient engine for single-aisle aircraft, and we will continue to support Frontier and their operations in the coming decades.”
Also commenting on the additional GTF engine order, Frontier Airlines’ CEO, Barry Biffle, said,
“We are pleased to collaborate with Pratt & Whitney to power these 91 new aircraft that will join the rapidly growing Frontier fleet in the coming years. Our modern, highly fuel-efficient fleet is integral to The New Frontier, our customer-centric brand transformation that is proving affordable prices and an exceptional travel experience can fly hand in hand. The GTF engine also plays an important role in our continued commitment to being America's Greenest Airline.”
The next evolution of the GTF engine, the GTF Advantage, will provide higher takeoff thrust capability, increased fuel efficiency, and longer time on wing compared to current GTF engines. The GTF Advantage will power Frontier Airlines’ A321neo aircraft deliveries as the engine becomes the production standard over the next few years.
