flydubai to Launch Daily Service to Langkawi and Penang

flydubai will launch new daily service to both Langkawi and Penang in Malaysia from February 10, 2024. With the new service, the carrier grows their network to over 120 destinations in 53 countries.

On Thursday (September 21, 2023), flydubai announced the launch of new daily service from Dubai to Langkawi and Penang in Malaysia starting February 10, 2024. The routes will be operated with a Boeing 737-8 MAX featuring fully lie-flat Business Class seats and a comfortable Economy Class experience. With the new service to Langkawi and Penang, the carrier expands their Southeast Asian network to four destinations, including existing routes to Krabi and Pattaya in Thailand, and their total network to over 120 destinations in 53 countries.


In Thursday’s announcement, flydubai’s Chief Executive Officer, Ghaith Al Ghaith, said,


“We are pleased to see our presence in Southeast Asia grow with the launch of operations to Langkawi and Penang. Flights from the UAE to these popular holiday destinations are vital for tourism and business connectivity. These destinations in Malaysia offer cultural diversity, leisure activities and investment opportunities. Our new flights will be popular for passengers not only from the UAE, but from the GCC and the European markets as well.”

Also commenting on the launch of Malaysian routes, flydubai’s SVP – Commercial Operations (UAE, GCC, Africa and the Indian Subcontinent), Sudhir Sreedharan, said,


“Malaysia is an extremely important market for flydubai and we are pleased to see these flights become a reality. The daily service will prove popular for our passengers from around the network and will provide passengers from Malaysia with convenient options to travel to Dubai and beyond whether they are travelling for business, leisure or to visit family and friends.”


Since commencing operations in 2009, flydubai has grown their network to over 120 destinations across 53 countries in Africa, Central Asia, the Caucuses, Central and South-East Europe, the GCC and the Middle East, and the Indian Subcontinent. The carrier has opened more than 75 new routes that did not previously have direct air links to Dubai or were not served by a UAE carrier. flydubai operates a single fleet type of 78 Boeing airplanes, including 29 Boeing 737-800NGs, 46 Boeing 737-8 MAX, and three Boeing 737-9 MAX airplanes.
