On Thursday (February 15, 2024), flydubai announced the launch of new service to Basel, Riga, Tallinn and Vilnius, becoming the first UAE airline to offer direct service to these four destinations.  With the added routes, flydubai’s European network expands to 43 destinations in 21 countries.  Flights to EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (BSL) will commence on August 2, 2024, while  flights to Riga International Airport in Latvia will start on October 11, 2024.  Service to Tallinn Airport (TLL) in Estonia and Vilnius International Airport (VNO) in Lithuania will both commence on October 12, 2024.

In Thursday’s route announcement, flydubai’s Chief Executive Officer, Ghaith Al Ghaith, said,

“We are proud to see our network grow bigger than ever with the new route launches. We have created a diverse network of 126 destinations, 60% of which previously had very limited or no connections to Dubai.  Our new services to the Baltic region and Basel will enable more people to travel conveniently through Dubai’s aviation hub, whether they are visiting Dubai or connecting conveniently onto the flydubai network or further afield with our codeshare partner Emirates.”

With the addition of Basel, Riga, Tallinn and Vilnius, we look forward to welcoming more travellers from Europe to Dubai and onwards to other points on our network including Malaysia, the Maldives, Mombasa, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Zanzibar.”

Since commencing operations in 2009, flydubai has grown their network to over 120 destinations across 53 countries in Africa, Central Asia, the Caucuses, Central and South-East Europe, the GCC and the Middle East, and the Indian Subcontinent.  The carrier has opened more than 75 new routes that did not previously have direct air links to Dubai or were not served by a UAE carrier.  flydubai operates a single fleet type of 84 Boeing airplanes, including Boeing 737-800NGs, 737-8 MAX, and 737-9 MAX models, and also has an order backlog of 137 737s.  At the Dubai Airshow in November 2023, the carrier ordered 30 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, their first widebody jets ever.
