flydubai celebrated their inaugural service to AlUla on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, becoming the first UAE carrier to offer service from Dubai to the historic city. AlUla is an unseen wonder of the world, and is located close to Hegra, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
On Thursday (March 3, 2022), flydubai announced the launch of inaugural service between Dubai and the historic city of AlUla in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, becoming the first UAE carrier to offer service on the route. The flight took place on Tuesday (March 2nd) where the aircraft was greeted in AlUla with a traditional water cannon salute at AlUla International Airport (ULH). Onboard the inaugural flight was a VIP delegation including flydubai’s CEO, Ghaith Al Ghaith, members from the Royal Commission for AlUla, and representatives of the UAE media.
In Thursday’s announcment, flydubai’s Chief Executive Officer, Ghaith Al Ghaith, said,
“We are delighted to see the first flydubai flight land in AlUla today and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the authorities and the Royal Commission for AlUla for their support. The launch of operations to AlUla reflects our commitment to strengthening the cultural, trade and tourism ties between the UAE and Saudi Arabia and opening up new markets to more passengers.”
Also commenting on flydubai’s new service, The Royal Commission for AlUla’s Chief Destination Management and Marketing Officer, Phillip J. Jones, said,
“As AlUla continues to attract more visitors from around the globe, we are thrilled to have flydubai offer year-round direct flights from Dubai. The new twice-weekly flights will facilitate not only the movement of visitors from the important UAE market, but from throughout flydubai's extensive international network into AlUla. There is no other destination that equals AlUla for fascinating ancient history, heritage and culture combined with high-end luxury settings and experiences - and now increasingly more easily accessible for both leisure and business visitors. AlUla is considered one of the unseen wonders of the world and is located in close proximity to Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage site, Hegra, a remarkable historical and archeological site which opened to global travelers in 2020. Including the new service to AlUla, flydubai’s network in Saudi Arabia has grown to six destinations including Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, Riyadh and Yanbu.
