Lufthansa Cargo has announced that ITA Airways’ first four flights with Lufthansa Cargo onboard departed Buenos Aires, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro on Monday, June 16th, and arrived at Rome Fiumicino in the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

On Wednesday (June 18, 2025) Lufthansa Cargo announced that their latest cooperation with ITA Airways reached its first operational milestone on Monday June 16, 2025, when four ITA aircraft took off for Rome Fiumicino (FCO) from Buenos Aires (EZE), São Paulo (GRU) and Rio de Janeiro (GIG) with freight marketed and managed by Lufthansa Cargo. The flights touched down in Rome in the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 17, 2025, and were welcomed by Lufthansa Cargo team members, and a delegation from Aeroporti di Roma.
In the first step of cooperation, Lufthansa Cargo will initially market freight capacity in the belly-hold of ITA Airways flights from Buenos Aires (EZE), São Paulo (GRU) and Rio de Janeiro (GIG) to Rome under their own AWB prefix. Rome has now become Lufthansa Cargo’s fifth hub in Europe, joining Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna and Brussels. Once all regulatory approvals have been received, Lufthansa Cargo will gradually expand the marketing of ITA Airways' freight capacity to all continental and intercontinental routes.
Lufthansa Cargo customer JAS Worldwide has already taken advantage of the new routes. Founded in Milan in 1978 and headquartered in Atlanta, JAS Worldwide initially booked the ‘Sustainable Choice’ Add-on Service on the first flight with ITA Airways to reduce their carbon footprint with SAF. Since the beginning of 2025, this service has been bookable online, for both cargo aircraft and belly capacities marketed by Lufthansa Cargo.
