On Tuesday (June 15, 2021), Finnair announced the launch of an all new ‘Business Light’ ticket fare which has been designed for leisure travelers who want to travel light and affordably, while enjoying the onboard comfort of Business Class. Customers can now choose from three ticket types, namely Light, Classic and Flex, when booking Business or Economy Class tickets for all short-haul and most intercontinental flights. Business Light tickets only include carry-on luggage and do not include reservation changes, refunds, airport priority services, lounge access or onboard internet service. Customers will still have the option to elevate their travel experience by adding the extras they value.

In Tuesday’s announcement, Finnair’s Chief Commercial Officer, Ole Orvér, said,

“There is an increasing need to personalize the travel experience, and our new ticket types offer opportunities for choice and tailoring. We want to offer our customers journeys that look like them, and we will be adding more choice and personalization opportunities to our offering as we re-introduce services and prepare for ramp-up of our operations.”

Finnair’s Classic tickets allow ticket date changes and include one checked bag. For Classic tickets purchased on June 15th or later, customers can make ticket changes free of charge, only paying the fare difference, if any. Refunds for Classic tickets are not available if a customer cancels their reservation. Finnair’s Flex tickets are fully rebookable and refundable, requiring customers to only pay the fare difference, if any, for itinerary changes. If a customer decides to cancel their trip, the fare will be refunded. Flex tickets include checked baggage and advance seat assignments. Economy Class Flex tickets purchased after June 15, 2021 will not include airport priority services.

All customers who have purchased tickets prior to June 15, 2021 will travel on their original tickets and receive the included benefits. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, Finnair is still allowing customers who book travel through August 31, 2021, additional flexibility for travel date changes.
