On Thursday (May 18, 2023), Fiji Airways announced that they will add a fourth weekly frequency between Nadi and Hong Kong starting October 1st, 2023. The carrier resumed service to Hong Kong and April 1st with two weekly flights, and a third frequency is scheduled to commence in August. Prior to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Fiji Airways operated five weekly flights to/from Hong Kong, and the carrier is committed to returning to that level in the future. Flights to Hong Kong currently operate twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays, with a third frequency on Saturdays to be added from August, and a fourth Sunday service from October 1st, 2023.

In Thursday’s announcement, Fiji Airways’ Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Andre Viljoen, said,

“Hong Kong has traditionally been a strong link for us as the main gateway into China. We are pleased with how well this market has picked up in a short amount of time. With these flights, Fiji Airways is able to carry goods between Fiji and China, improving trade and economic activity. Our forward bookings for Hong Kong for the next six months are 15 percent ahead of 2019. Based on this, the National Airline is confident that a fourth service will also do well.

“We have to put in the hard yards and rebuild connections in Hong Kong and China, and capture the attention of customers. Recently, we held a roadshow in China visiting key locations and engaging with trade and media partners. I am confident that a fifth service is possible when the time is right.”

Fiji Airways has also overhauled their onboard Business Class dining experience in partnership with renowned Kiwi-Fijian Chef Richard Cross, and has also introduced a new suite of highly rated international wines. Additionally, guests now have access to the digital reading platform, PressReader, which includes over 7,000 international newspapers and magazines that can be downloaded directly to their personal device. The service is available 96 hours prior to departure and up to 24 hours after the flight. For their youngest guests, Fiji Airways offers ‘Our Ocean, Our Life’, a complimentary inflight activity pack and book series for passengers aged 2-12, which is dedicated to education the future generation on the importance of preserving and protecting Fiji’s fragile marine environment.
