On Monday (March 16, 2026), British Airways announced a major network expansion for thew winter 2026/27 season.  The carrier’s long-haul network will grow 9.0 percent compared to this winter, and includes new service to Melbourne in Australia, and Colombo, Sri Lanka. British Airways will also increase capacity to several popular leisure destinations, including Cape Town, Tokyo-Haneda, Barbados, Kingston, Jamaica and San Jose, Costa Rica.  Additionally, in response to the uncertainty surrounding Middle East conflict, British Airways has added seven extra return services to Bangkok and Singapore in the last week and will add more flights as needed.

In Monday’s announcement, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, Neil Chernoff, said,

“We’re delighted to announce sizable growth

to our flying schedule for winter 2026, including two notable new destinations that I’m confident will prove popular with our customers. We're also  increasing services across several high-demand routes around the world.  Together, these changes represent a significant investment in our long-haul leisure network, adding even more options and choice for our customers.

“Elsewhere, we know there is short-term demand as a result of the situation in the Middle East.  To support customers with alternative routes from popular destinations we have already launched additional flights, and we will continue to monitor customer demand and add flights to our schedule if we’re able to do so.”

Year-round daily service between London Heathrow and Melbourne will commence on January 9, 2027, via Kuala Lumpur.  Customers have a choice of four cabins, including World Traveller (economy), World Traveller Plus (premium economy), Club World (business class) and First Class.  Return fares start from £1,130 (including taxes and carrier fees) and are now available for booking.  Launching on October 23, 2026, British Airways will also launch winter seasonal service between London Gatwick and Colombo, Sri Lanka, with three weekly flights.  Customers traveling to Colombo have a choice of three cabins, including World Traveller (economy), World Traveller Plus (premium economy) and Club World (business class). Return fares start from £620 (including taxes and carrier fees) and are on sale now.

As previously mentioned, British Airways is also increasing frequencies across several popular routes.  This includes a third daily flight from London Heathrow to Cape Town from December, double-daily flights between Heathrow and Tokyo-Haneda from March.  Additionally, new daily service between London Gatwick and Barbados will start on October 25th, complementing existing service from London Heathrow.  This route also continues on to Grenada, Guyana, and Tobago.  The airline is also adding more dedicated capacity to St. Lucia in the Caribbean, as daily flights become a standalone service from October 25, 2026.

Service to San José, Costa Rica will also increase to five flights weekly, and is moving to London Heathrow.  Flights from London Gatwick to Kingston, Jamaica and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic will also see increased frequencies with four flights weekly. To the U.S., flights to New Orleans increases to four weekly, Baltimore becomes daily, and Houston will increase to 12 per week.  Service to Delhi, India will continue to operate three times daily, while daily service between London Heathrow and Abu Dhabi will return on October 25, 2026.
