On Tuesday (April 5, 2022), Airbus announced that Eurowings has taken delivery of their first Airbus A320neo, registration D-AENA. The aircraft was ferried from Toulouse to its home in North Rhine-Westphalia today, with flight EW6971 departing Toulouse at 11:59 and arriving at Düsseldorf Airport at 13:33. The new aircraft features the Airbus Airspace cabin which brings a widebody guest experience to the single-aisle market, elevating comfort, ambience and services to the next level. With unique and customizable lighting and the quietest cabin in its class, the Airspace cabin has been designed to optimize passenger relaxation. The cabin’s Airspace XL overhead bins also provide room for 60 percent more bags, and redesigned side panel walls provide more personal space. Additionally, Airspace offers hygienic space and antimicrobial surfaces in all lavatories.

In a separate delivery announcement today, Eurowings’ CEO, Jens Bischof, said,

“The neo is the most visible sign so far of a series of more than 50 sustainability projects at Eurowings. Significantly quieter and with considerable fuel and carbon savings, the aircraft is a decisive lever in the implementation of our ambitious environmental goals. The neo will help ensure that we – together with the entire Lufthansa Group – also lead the competition in the discipline of sustainability.”

Also commenting on the A320neo delivery, Airbus’ Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus Group International, Christian Scherer, said,

“People are eager and ready to travel again and they can do so best in the A320's widest single aisle cabin in the sky featuring the award-winning, new Airbus Airspace cabin. We applaud Eurowings on its decision to build its future fleet on the A320neo, which operates at 20 percent less fuel burn and CO2 by halving the noise - compared to previous generation aircraft. We are honoured to welcome Eurowings as the latest A320neo Family operator.”

The Airbus A320neo Family is the most successful aircraft family ever and has delivered an operational reliability rate of 99.7 percent. The aircraft also provides operators with a 20 percent reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, resulting from the use of state-of-the-art materials, new generation CFM LEAP engines and wing tip Sharklets. Additionally, the A320neo Family offers unmatched comfort in all classes and standard 18-inch wide seats in economy. As of the end of February 2022, the A320neo Family had received nearly 7,900 orders from over 125 global customers.
