On Monday (March 21, 2022), Eurowings announced the launch of the first phase of their codeshare partnership with Smartwings, the leading Czech airline. Starting today, Eurowings will offer connections from their new base in Prague to Cologne/Bonn, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Bristol, Birmingham, Copenhagen, Barcelona, Athens, Larnaca, Heraklion, Málaga, Alicante, Stockholm, Faro, Rome and Mallorca. The flights will be operated under Smartwings flight numbers and will be marketed across all Smartwings distribution channels. Smartwings’ guests will benefit from the growing number of direct Eurowings connections via Prague. In the next phase of the partnership, Smartwings flights will also be offered under Eurowings flight numbers.

In Monday’s announcment, Eurowings’ CEO, Jens Bischof, said,

“We are pleased to announce the launch of codeshare flights with our partner Smartwings. The cooperation strengthens our position in Prague and makes it possible for us to offer our customers more and easier travel options. The implementation of the agreement comes at exactly the right time. After two years of spending a lot of time at home, the desire to travel is stronger than ever. We are currently seeing a surge in bookings, not only in the Czech Republic, but across our entire route network.”

Also commenting on the codeshare launch, Smartwings’ CEO, Roman Vik, added,

“We are pleased that we are able to significantly expand our network through the cooperation with Eurowings.”

With the opening of their new base in Prague, Eurowings has vastly expanded their Central European network. This summer, the Lufthansa Group subsidiary will station three Airbus A320s at the base, including local crews. The flights will be operated by Eurowings Europe, the pan-European operation of Eurowings.

Prague-based Smartwings is the largest Czech airline and one of the fastest growing carriers in Central Europe. The airline, which is part of the Smartwings Group, operates scheduled and charter flights, as well as private business jet service. In addition to the Czech Republic, Smartwings operates in the Slovak Republic, Poland and Hungary, with service to over 80 destinations in Europe and beyond. Most of the carrier’s flights operate in codeshare partnership with Czech Airlines, which is also part of the Smartwings Group.

Eurowings is the leisure airline of the Lufthansa Group, the world’s largest aviation group. The carrier is the market leader at airports in Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Stuttgart, and Cologne/Bonn and currently operates a fleet of over 100 aircraft. Eurowings offers affordable products and services with direct service to over 100 European destinations. The carrier’s extensive network includes 11 international bases, including Palma de Mallorca, Europe’s most popular vacation island. Eurowings is Germany’s largest leisure airline and employs over 3,500 team members across Europe.
