Eurowings Discover Launches Inaugural Service From Frankfurt to Mombasa and Zanzibar

Eurowings Discover’s inaugural flight took off from Frankfurt on Saturday (July 24th) to Mombasa, with onward service to Zanzibar. The carrier will offer 15 additional long and medium-haul destinations in 2021, including Punta Cana and Windhoek from August.

On Saturday (July 24, 2021), the Lufthansa Group announced the launch of Eurowings Discover’s inaugural flight. The flight, 4Y134, departed Frankfurt at 19:45 on Saturday evening for Mombasa, with continuing service to Zanzibar after a short stopover in Mombasa of about one hour. The inaugural flight was operated with an Airbus A330-200 under the command of Captain Wolfgang Raebiger, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Eurowings Discover. Eurowings Discover is currently the only European airline offering direct flights to Mombasa.


The carrier will also offer 15 additional long and medium-haul destinations for 2021, including service to Punta Cana and Windhoek from August 9th and 10th respectively. The Lufthansa Group’s new leisure airline received their Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the German Federal Aviation Authority on June 16th and is operating under the flight code ‘4Y.’ The Eurowings Discover Airbus A330-200 is configured with 270 seats including 22 lie-flat Business Class seats. In the coming months, all Eurowings Discover aircraft will also be equipped with 31 Premium Economy Class seats.


Guests in all classes will enjoy complimentary meals and non-alcoholic beverages. In Business Class, all beverages are offered free of charge and Premium Economy Class guests will be offered a complimentary selection of beer and wine. Additionally, the carrier is offering a selection of Buy-on-Board items, allowing Economy and Premium Economy customers additional snack and alcoholic beverage options. Eurowings Discover also offers complimentary onboard entertainment in all cabins with individual IFE screens offering a selection of over 50 movies, 80 TV programs and numerous soundtracks. Additionally, guests can connect to the ‘Onboard-Cloud’ via their own personal electronic devices to receive an extended entertainment offer with a wide selection of magazines and over 50 cutting-edge games.


On September 30, 2021, Eurowings Discover will launch service between Frankfurt and Las Vegas, while flights to Mauritius will commence on October 1st. Flights to Bridgetown and Cancún will start on November 1st and service to Varadero and Montego Bay will launch on November 1st and 2nd, respectively. From November, the carrier will add attractive medium-haul routes from Frankfurt including service to Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Tenerife, Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Marrakesh. Additionally, starting summer 2022 Eurowings Discover will offer short, medium and long-haul flights from the Munich hub.



Eurowings Discover is the Lufthansa Group’s new leisure airline and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Deutsche Lufthansa AG. The carrier’s IATA code is 4Y, and the airline operates in its own commercial and operational responsibility. Eurowings Discover offers a range of short, medium and long-haul flights, complementing Lufthansa’s tourist offering from its German hubs. With matched offers from SWISS and Edelweiss, the Lufthansa Group has successfully operated this combined business models for many years at the Zurich hub.
