On Wednesday (November 29, 2023), Etihad Airways announced that they will deploy their double-decker Airbus A380 on the route between Abu Dhabi and New York-JFK from April 22, 2024.  The A380 will operate one of two daily services on the route, with the other service being operated with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner featuring First, Business and Economy Class cabins.  New York follows London as Etihad’s second destination to be served by the remarkable A380 super-jumbo jet.

In Wednesday’s announcement, Etihad Airways’ Chief Executive Officer, Antonoaldo Neves, said,

“We’re thrilled to start flying our remarkable A380 across the Atlantic, and we know our guests love the onboard experience.  Whether they are flying in Economy, Business, First or the three-room suite in the sky, The Residence, they will enjoy elevated levels of service from our dedicated crew, and ensure they arrive in the city that never sleeps refreshed and relaxed.  We know this is important for all our guests, not least our corporate customers, and the timing and comfort provided by the A380 means they can arrive fresh and ready for their business appointments.

“Putting the A380 on the popular New York route makes sense as we satisfy customer demand for more capacity, further growing our expanding network.  The fact that our new route to Boston, Etihad’s fourth US gateway, will open on 31 March, three weeks before our A380 starts flying to New York, underlines our ambitious growth plans.”

Etihad’s A380 Economy Class cabin features a welcome area, 68 extra legroom seats with an additional four inches of space, and 337 Economy Smart seats featuring the airline’s signature fixed-wing headrests and large pillows.  The Upper Deck features 70 exclusive, private Business Studios, along with ‘The Lobby’, a serviced lounge and bar area between Business Class and First Class.  In collaboration with Armani/Casa, Etihad offers a sophisticated Business Class experience with premium ceramics, glassware, cutlery and high end fabrics.  Additionally, a comprehensive Wi-Fi connection allows guests to remain productive and in touch.

In First Class, Etihad’s A380 offers nine ‘Apartments’, each equipped with designer tableware, a spacious leather lounge chair, and an ottoman that transforms into an 80-inch lie-flat bed.  First Class guests also enjoy personal vanity units and access to the exclusive shower room.

Finally, Etihad's super jumbo features ‘The Residence’, which is the world’s only three-room suite in the sky and offers the pinnacle of luxury, with accommodations for up to two guests.  The Residence boasts a private living room, a bedroom and an ensuite bathroom, complete with shower. Additionally, guests will be pampered by dedicated team of Etihad cabin crew to ensure an unforgettable travel experience.  The Residence guests also enjoy an à la carte menu served on designer tableware in the private living room or can even choose breakfast in bed.  With gourmet cuisine, champagne and caviar, The Residence Signature High Tea offers a range of sumptuous options.
