On Friday (February 23, 2024), Etihad Airways announced that they are celebrating the arrival of three new state-of-the-art Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners at Abu Dhabi Zayed International Airport.  The aircraft will enter passenger revenue service this month, contributing to the carrier’s ambitious plan to serve 125 destinations with more than 160 aircraft by 2030.  The aircraft feature a stylish new cabin design, and expand Etihad’s young fleet to 88 aircraft.

In Friday’s announcement, Etihad Airways’ Chief Executive Officer, Antonoaldo Neves, said,

“We are thrilled to welcome these brand-new, state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliners to Abu Dhabi.  Their arrival is key to our network expansion strategy and comes at the perfect time as we continue to add multiple new destinations and expand frequencies into key markets.  These new aircraft support our commitment to Abu Dhabi, allowing us to bring more guests to experience the incredible capital of the UAE, either as their end destination or on a stopover when connecting across our expanding network.”

The arrival of the three 787-9s follows the delivery of a new 787-10 in October 2023, and will bolster the carrier’s fleet as they add new service to Boston on March 31st, as new service to Nairobi and Bali, as well as summer seasonal flights to Nice, Malaga, Mykonos and Santorini.  During the fourth quarter of 2023, the airline also added new routes to Osaka, Copenhagen and Düsseldorf, along with new service to Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram in the Kerala region of India on January 1st, 2024.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner Family delivers a fuel savings of up to 25 percent compared to similarly sized aircraft.  Etihad now operates a fleet of 88 aircraft, including 43 Boeing 787s, as well as B777s, Airbus A380s, A350s, and A320 Family jets.  The carrier’s new Dreamliners are configured with 32 Business Class Suites and 271 Economy Class seats.  Business Class features a custom version of Collins’ Elements seat, the first time this seat has been installed on a 787 Dreamliner.  The Business Suites offer generous space, comfort and privacy, along with direct aisle access, a 78” fully lie-flat bed, and a generous 17.3” 4K IFE screen.  Other features include Bluetooth headphone pairing, wireless charging, multiple charging ports, as well as plenty of storage space.
