Ethiopian Airlines has today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Satarem America establishing a partnership for the production and use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in Ethiopia.
On Saturday (August 3, 2024), Ethiopian Airlines Group announced the signing of a MoU with Satarem America Inc. to partner on the production and use of SAF in Ethiopia. Satarem will produce SAF in the country, and Ethiopian Airlines has agreed to purchase the fuel, reaffirming their commitment to sustainable aviation. Satarem America is a leading provider of sustainable energy solutions, and the new partnership will enable Ethiopian Airlines Group to incorporate SAF into their operations. Produced from sustainable feedstocks, SAF is a cleaner alternative to traditional jet fuel, and can substantially reduce GHG emissions on a lifecycle basis.
In Saturday’s announcement, Ethiopian Airlines Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, said,
“We are excited to partner with Satarem America Inc in our journey towards a greener and more sustainable future. The adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel is not just a business decision; it reflects our commitment to combating climate change and investing in innovative solutions that support a sustainable industry.”
In addition to the new SAF partnership with Satarem, Ethiopian has implemented a range of more environmentally friendly initiatives, including fleet modernization, optimized flight operations, tree planting, and extensive recycling programs.
