Ethiopian Airlines Launches New Service to Hanoi, Vietnam

Ethiopian Airlines has launched new, four times weekly passenger service between Addis Ababa and Hanoi, Vietnam. The flight will operate with an interim stop in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

On Thursday (July 10, 2025), Ethiopian Airlines celebrated the launch of their inaugural flight between Addis Ababa and Hanoi, with an interim stop in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Marking the occasion, a special ceremony was held at the Ethiopian Skylight Hotel, which was attended by government officials, diplomats and airline executives, including Ethiopian Airlines’ CEO, Mr. Mesfin Tasew. The new Hanoi service is the carrier’s first gateway in Vietnam and 20th destination in Asia, strengthening Ethiopian Airlines’ strategic expansion in Southeast Asia.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Ethiopian Airlines’ CEO, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, said,
“We are truly delighted to start passenger services to Hanoi, a city of great cultural and economic significance. This new route not only supports our vision of connecting Africa to the world but also serves as a bridge for enhanced cooperation between Africa and Southeast Asia. With our modern fleet, award-winning service, and vast global network, we are confident that this route will facilitate growing tourism, business, and people-to-people ties between Vietnam and the African continent.”
Ethiopian Airlines currently operates flights to 28 passenger and cargo destinations in Asia, with over 190 weekly frequencies, making it one of the most connected African carriers in the region. The new Addis Ababa–Hanoi route, operated with a one-stop in Dhaka, Bangladesh, provides travelers with even greater access between the two continents.
Founded in 1945, Ethiopian Airlines is the fastest growing airline in Africa. The carrier commands the largest share of Pan-African passenger and cargo service markets and operates one of the youngest and most modern fleets in the world. In addition to their main hub in Addis Ababa, the carrier is also pursuing a multi-hub strategy through a hub in Lomé (Togo) with ASKY, in Lilongwe (Malawi) with Malawi Airlines, and in Lusaka (Zambia) with Zambia Airways.
