Ethiopian Airlines Launches New Passenger Service Between Addis Ababa and Abu Dhabi

Ethiopian Airlines has launched new daily service between Addis Ababa and Abu Dhabi, complementing their existing four weekly flights to Sharjah in the UAE.

On Tuesday (July 15, 2025), Ethiopian Airlines announced the launch of their inaugural passenger flight between Addis Ababa and Abu Dhabi. The new route was celebrated with a special event held at Ethiopian Skylight Hotel in Addis Ababa, attended by H.E. Lieutenant General Yilma Merdassa, Chairman of the Ethiopian Airlines Board, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, senior Ethiopian Government officials, representatives from the UAE Embassy in Ethiopia, and Ethiopian Airlines’ executives.
Speaking at Tuesday’s launch ceremony in Addis Ababa on Tuesday, Ethiopian Airlines Group’s CEO, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, said,
“The launch of our new service to Abu Dhabi reflects Ethiopian Airlines’ strategic commitment to connecting Africa with the world. Through our collaboration with Etihad Airways, we are creating more opportunities for trade, investment, and tourism between our nations while offering our passengers expanded choice and convenience. This partnership is a powerful example of what can be achieved when two national carriers come together to unlock mutual growth.”
Ethiopian Airlines’ new daily service to Abu Dhabi complements four weekly flights to Sharjah, which was launched in June 2025. Currently, the carrier operates over 100 weekly passenger flights to 13 destinations across the Middle East and Gulf region. Ethiopian now operates passenger and cargo flights to and from four airports in three cities in the UAE, including Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. The new Addis Ababa-Abu Dhabi route is part of a joint venture between Ethiopian Airlines and Etihad Airways.
