Edelweiss has officially named their second Airbus A350 ‘Piz Palü’ in a ceremony at Zurich Airport. Like the carrier’s first A350, which was named ‘Piz Bernina’ in March, the new aircraft now carries the name of a majestic peak in the Engadin region.

On Wednesday (August 6, 2025), Edelweiss announced the official naming of their second Airbus A350, which was christened ‘Piz Palü’ in a ceremony at Zurich Airport. Like the carrier's first A350 named ‘Piz Bernina’ in March, this aircraft now carries the name of a majestic peak in the Engadin region. Traditionally, Edelweiss names their aircraft after Swiss regions, towns, or mountains where the Edelweiss flower is native, reflecting the carrier’s deep Swiss roots, and symbolically linking each aircraft to a specific region where Edelweiss naturally grows.
In Wednesday’s announcement, Edelweiss’ Chief Operating Officer, David Birrer, said,
“The Airbus A350 marks a new era for Edelweiss: it’s quieter, more efficient, and more comfortable. That our second A350 also bears the name of an Engadin Mountain is no coincidence – this region stands for natural beauty, strength, and vision like no other. Qualities that are embodied by our newest fleet member.”
The symbolic naming of a new aircraft is not only appreciated by the airline, but also by citizens and representatives of the region itself.
Further commenting on the naming of the new Edelweiss Airbus A350, Corvatsch Diavolezza Lagalb’s Board Member, Emilio Bianchi, added,
“We are proud that an Edelweiss aircraft once again carries the name of an Engadin peak. Piz Palü is a landmark of our region – knowing it will now travel the world on an aircraft brings our alpine homeland to the skies in a very special way.”
As a token of appreciation, Edelweiss received a picture of Piz Palü from the region, taken by renowned nature photographer Romano Salis. ‘Piz Palü’ will now continue to operate on various long-haul routes, flying guests to dream destinations while carrying a piece of the Engadin mountains across the globe.
Edelweiss is Switzerland’s leading leisure travel airline and flies to the most beautiful destinations in the world. The airline reliably ensures a pleasant and carefree travel time to the holiday destination and looks after the safety and well-being of its guests with commitment and cordiality. Edelweiss is a sister company of Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) and a member of the Lufthansa Group.
